A "veteran," whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve, is someone who, at one point in life, wrote a blank check to the United States of America, for the amount "up to and including my life."A friend sent me the above quote. It was in my in-box when I got back from a funeral escort for a young man killed in Iraq. Sometimes the check comes due. Everyone who has worn a military uniform is aware of that. I sometimes wonder if our government is.

I love that quote. I think we all need to consider whether those we will vote for beleive that and will consider how many more of those checks they will cash in the near future... and if they will be worth it.
My eldest son recently talked to me about joining the military when he graduates. Right now that's more than three years away, but I am filled with pride and fear at the same time.
It is up to us to remind them.

We are still "The People"...
I don't think enough of us stop to think about the "checks" being cashed. We loose sight of the fact that everyone of them is a son, brother, father or friend. Every American should be thankful these people have written the check and hold them in the highest regard. May God bless each one of these souls.
One would hope, Chris, one would hope. Certainly doesn't seem like they care all that much.
